The 172 Project

The 172 Project

172 ministers. 77 denominations. One singular cause.

“With little more than two-weeks’ notice, 172 ministers of the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC) from as many as 77 different religious denominations were united through a singular cause.”

The Story

A Historic Pilgrimage

The ministers answered a call to participate in a historic pilgrimage to Korea between September 9 and September 24, 2011.

“They were informed that Father Moon had received a call from God to quickly assemble 172 faith leaders of America, by gathering 43 clergy from each of the four directions — North, South, East and West.”

Significance

Why 43?

The number 43 represents 4,300 years of Korean history — a nation that was invaded over 900 times in its last 2,000 years, yet maintained its cultural identity and national spirit throughout.

The biblical parallels are equally profound. The 430 years of slavery endured by the Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 12:40) find their echo in this number, as does Peter’s account of Jesus spending 3 days preaching to the lost in hell before his 40-day resurrection — together totaling 43 days.

The Mission

A Charge to Transform

“The 172 traversed Korea testifying that God had anointed Father and Mother Moon. They proclaimed Heaven’s wish to remove all barriers between race, religion and denomination.”

Each participant was grafted into a Korean clan, adopted a Korean surname, and registered as citizens of God’s coming Kingdom. Korea was affirmed as the base for God’s Kingdom, emphasizing family culture, purity, marital fidelity, and respect for parents.

“Rev. Moon charged the 172 to return to America and bring about the sanctification of marriage and family to save this nation.”

A Continuing Mission

The 172 Project continues today, carried forward by the original members alongside new clergy who have committed to this mission — the sanctification of marriage and family to transform America, one community at a time.
